Acupuncture is more than just needles.
It is one aspect of Chinese Medicine which includes further techniques such as Cupping, Gua Sha, Korean Auricular Acupuncture, Moxa and Qi Gong. All of these techniques may be used as part of your treatment. I also advise on Diet and Lifestyle.
Whereas Western Medicine looks to diagnose and then treat a presenting symptom Eastern Medicine commences with a search for the underlying cause of any condition. Acupuncture can be used when our bodies’ systems are out of balance. It can be beneficial to overall health and well-being. Many people find it a relaxing treatment. I have discovered for myself the huge benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine upon mental, emotional and physical health, and general well-being.

What happens during treatment?
During your Initial Appointment, I will take a detailed medical history, read your pulses, and look at your tongue. I may examine the site of your pain and symptoms. A treatment plan will be based on the state of your health and lifestyle. When commencing treatment, I normally would advise a course of around five future treatments as Acupuncture has an accumulative effect, but this can vary. Fundamentally, I will be treating you, not just the presenting condition, so the treatment plan will be unique to you.
FAQs
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional medicine practice that involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to promote natural healing, balance energy flow (Qi), and restore overall wellbeing. It’s often used to relieve pain, reduce stress, and support physical and emotional health.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s nervous system and natural healing responses. The gentle insertion of needles encourages the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters, increases blood circulation, and helps regulate energy pathways. This process can reduce inflammation, ease tension, and restore internal balance.
What can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture can be beneficial for a wide range of concerns, including:
- Stress, anxiety, and sleep issues
- Chronic pain (such as back, neck, or joint pain)
- Headaches and migraines
- Digestive problems
- Hormonal balance and menstrual health
- Overall wellbeing and relaxation
Your practitioner will tailor the treatment to your individual needs and health goals.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people find acupuncture comfortable and relaxing. The needles used are extremely fine, much thinner than injection needles, and their insertion is often described as a mild tingling or dull ache rather than pain. Many clients even drift into a relaxed or meditative state during treatment.
